About WE Multimedia Theatre Group

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: When was WE Multimedia Theatre Group established?
A: WE Multimedia Theatre Group was established in 2010 and our first offering was the Northern California premiere of the play “M*A*S*H” featuring a cast and crew of almost 90 people. By the end of 2012 we will have staged a total of 14 productions at a variety of venues. On April 26, 2012 WE Multimedia Theatre Group was recognized by the Viva Downtown Redding Association “For Dedication and Efforts To Making a More vibrant Arts Community in Downtown Redding”.

Q: Is it true that the cast and crew members from each show get paid?
A: YES, but let me clarify two important points:
  • With the exception of “M*A*S*H”, where all proceeds were donated to Westside Performing Arts to assist in funding their afterschool arts program for kids, cast and crew members are contracted and split 50% of the net profit from their specific show . Realistically, I have yet to meet anyone in theatre who does it for the money but we realize that without the talents of the Actors and the Crew there would be NO theatre group. No one will ever get rich doing theatre (hence the term starving actor), but our goal is to help offset some of the expenses (gas, etc) that the cast and crew incur during the run of a performance.

  • WE Multimedia Theatre Group has no salaried employees. The Theatre Group Director position is a nonpaid position and receives no monetary compensation whatsoever.

Q: Where do the other monies go?
A: Of the remaining 50%, 25% is retained by WE Multimedia Theatre Group to help fund future shows. Each show has an Arts Beneficiary (M*A*S*H – Westside Performing Arts, “The Last Five Years” – Riverfront Playhouse, “Happy Days” – Shasta County Arts Council, etc.)  a percentage of the profit is donated to the arts beneficiary and can range up to 25%. Some shows have split beneficiaries.

Q: Are there fees associated with becoming or maintaining membership in WE Multimedia Theatre Group?
A:
NO, We do not charge any fees for WE Multimedia Theatre Group membership and other than asking the cast / crew members to sell an ad in the program for their show, all costs associated with the performances (costumes, etc.) are borne by WE Multimedia Theatre Group.
